Judge Affirms that Former Danbury Cop Must be Rehired

DANBURY, CT — A Danbury Superior Court has upheld the state's decision to reinstate a police officer accused of using excessive force during an arrest, the News Times is reporting.
The city had been ordered by Connecticut's arbitration board to rehire Police Officer Daniel Sellner. Now Judge Edward Krumeich has affirmed that decision.
Sellner was fired about four years ago after being accused of pushing a perpetrator to the ground while the youth was in handcuffs. The police union argued that there was no clear evidence of unreasonable force shown in the video of the incident.

City officials had argued that Sellner had a history of poor behavior that merited his firing. Before his termination, the officer had been accused of treating a young man roughly in a holding cell, threatening a motorist at a city gas station, was suspended without pay for making a lewd comment to an elementary school teacher, and underwent retraining after misusing a Taser on a motorist.
