Judge Orders Danbury PD to Re-Hire Fired Cop
Christopher Belair lost his job on the PD five years ago for verbally abusing a motorist at a traffic stop.

DANBURY, CT --- A Superior Court judge has ordered the Danbury Police to comply with an arbitration panel's order to reinstate Christopher Belair to the force. Belair had been fired by Mayor Mark Boughton in June 2013 for verbally abusing a motorist at a traffic stop.
The traffic stop took place March 2013, and officers pulled the driver over after seeing him run a red light. An audio tape of the encounter revealed one police officer, identified as Belair, yelling at the driver and threatening him for driving when intoxicated."Stop being in this country and almost ...... killing people," Belair said, "because you're too ....... stupid to call for a ride. Honestly, if there wasn't four other cops here, I'd beat the ...... out of you right now."
Belair was was charged in January 2014 with third-degree assault and second-degree threatening. But a Superior Court jury ruled in October 2015 that the former cop was not guilty of those charges. An arbitration panel found that the city should have only suspended Belair for 90 days. The city appealed the ruling.
