Juneteenth Rally Set For Saturday In Danbury
The event is being organized by the Greater Danbury NAACP and will be held at noon in the Rose Garden of Rogers Park.
DANBURY, CT — The Greater Danbury NAACP is organizing a rally to be held Saturday celebrating Juneteenth.
The event will be held at noon in the Rose Garden of Rogers Park. Attendees are requested to wear masks.
The NAACP will be providing a booth where attendees may vote and fill out census forms, and receive information on domestic violence, according to a post on the organizer's Facebook page.

The event commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union Gen. Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform enslaved African Americans that the Civil War was over and slavery had been abolished. That information arrived in Texas a full two and a half years after the enactment of the Emancipation Proclamation.
