DANBURY, CT — City fire crews extinguished a kitchen fire in a two-family residence on Monday.
The fire was called in at 5:54 p.m. by a Danbury police officer who was on routine patrol in the area and discovered heavy smoke coming from the building at 9 Cottage Street, according to officials. The police officer got all the home's occupants to safety as the firefighters made their way to the scene.
Upon their arrival, the firefighters determined the blaze was being fed by a broken gas line. Crews quickly got the fire under control, but not before the residents of one of the units were temporarily displaced. They are now living with family, according to officials.
