Mayor Alves Could Get Slimed If Danbury Readers Reach Summer Goal

DANBURY, CT — Danbury readers have a chance to slime Mayor Roberto Alves this summer.
The challenge is part of the Danbury Library's 2026 Summer Reading Program, "Unearth a Story," which runs from June 20 through Aug. 14.
According to the library, Alves has agreed to be slimed with primordial ooze during the program's End of Summer Celebration if at least 700 readers register to participate this year.

The summer reading program is open to readers of all ages and is designed to encourage reading through activities, prizes and community events.
The program officially begins with a kickoff party on June 20 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the library.

Attendees will receive a free tote bag, bookmark reading tracker and mini colored pencils, and can enjoy crafts, games, music and snacks. Shake Shack will provide free custard, while The Salvation Army Hot Dog Truck will serve hot dogs and bottled water.
Throughout the summer, participants can track their reading for a chance to win prizes including a fire truck ride to school, a Copsicle Truck class visit, tickets to Quassy Amusement & Waterpark and Lake Compounce or a new iPad.
Children and teens who complete their reading tracker can choose a free book to keep, while pre-readers and their caregivers can earn a free board book by completing an early literacy activity sheet.
