New Recording Studio to Open at The Danbury Library

DANBURY, CT – An exciting new opportunity will soon be available at the Danbury Library! The aptly named Studio 170, a brand-new recording studio, has been built and generously funded by the Friends of the Danbury Library. As the Danbury Library continues to support its vision to foster creativity, discovery, and personal growth, this will be a valuable asset to promote lifelong learning in our city’s diverse community. This service opens up a great opportunity for the library to partner with local organizations to create community projects. Use of Studio 170, like all of our library services, will be available free to library cardholders.

The Library will begin booking appointments on February 14, 2017.

The recording studio will be available for reservation to the public during the following times:

• Tuesdays 10:30 am - 6:00 pm
  
• Wednesdays 1:30 pm - 6:00 pm
  
• Thursdays 10:30 am - 6:00 pm
  
• Sundays 1:30 - 4:00 pm

The Danbury Library requires 24 hours’ notice for all reservations. Danbury Library patrons and Connecticard holders can reserve times by calling, emailing the library, or by filling out the reservation request form online. Processing of reservations is done during normal business days (Monday-Friday). They will not process reservations during Library closings or holidays. All reservations must be approved by either Aurelio Muraca or Amanda Gilbertie. Once the reservation is approved, patrons will be notified and the reservation will be placed on the online recording studio calendar.

Patrons who are interested in using the recording studio must attend an orientation session before their scheduled studio time. Patrons can contact the library in order to schedule this session.

The recording studio can be reserved in 30-minute increments. The maximum session length for the studio is three hours, and each user may make up to two advance reservations per calendar month. Studio use counts as a reservation even if it’s for less than the maximum session length. After a patron has used their two reservations in a given month, they may make additional walk-in reservations if the studio is available at that time, at the discretion of the Danbury Library Technology Center (LTC) staff. All work completed in the studio must be saved on the patron’s own large-capacity (16GB or more) drive. The Library is not responsible for saving work. LTC staff will be responsible for letting patrons into the studio and also checking them out once their session time has ended.

At least one person using the recording studio must be at least 17 years old, have an active Connecticut library card, and have a valid state-issued photo ID. The studio reservation must be in the name of the ID holder and s/he must be present for the duration of the session and is solely responsible for missing or damaged equipment. Any incurred fines will be charged to their account.

There must be no more than six people inside the recording booth at any one time. There can be no more than 11 people outside the recording booth at any one time. No food or beverages will be allowed in the studio.

The Danbury Library staff cannot provide one-on-one assistance on demand in the recording studio. Some proficiency in using computers and recording devices is expected to achieve results.
