1. 1 Dead Following Danbury House Fire: Officials (patch.com) — Danbury residents are learning that a person rescued from last week's West Lake Shore Drive house fire has died from their injuries, according to local fire officials. Firefighters quickly searched the burning home, pulled the victim out, and provided emergency care, but the medical examiner has now confirmed the death. The Danbury Fire Marshal's Office continues to investigate the cause while the family requests privacy.
   

2. 'Exceptional' Danbury Home Listed For Sale (patch.com) — House hunters in Danbury may be interested in a custom-built Colonial on West King Street, listed for $949,900 and set on over three and a half acres. Staples field hockey tangles with nationally-ranked juggernauts (westportjournal.com) — Staples High School's nationally ranked field hockey team will visit Danbury on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m., giving local fans a chance to see top-tier competition up close. The Wreckers are 3-0 against Connecticut teams and are coming off tough tests against nationally ranked opponents in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, sharpening their play before facing Danbury and then New Canaan.
   

4. CT inmate challenges motion to dismiss new-trial petition in 1999 Danbury killing (nhregister.com) — A man convicted in a 1999 Danbury killing is challenging the state's move to dismiss his petition for a new trial in Danbury Superior Court. He argues that firearm toolmark evidence used against him is now considered unreliable by much of the scientific community, while prosecutors say his filing is late and the overall case remains strong.
   

5. Developer redraws controversial 300-unit project in Newtown around breeding pool for frogs and fairy shrimp (nhregister.com) — A 300-unit Mount Pleasant Estates housing proposal in nearby Newtown, described as the largest project of its kind in greater Danbury in a decade, has been redesigned to protect a key amphibian breeding pool. As wetlands hearings begin in October and a court appeal continues, the outcome could shape how affordable housing and environmental concerns are balanced across the greater Danbury area.
