Police ID Danbury Couple Involved In New Milford Stabbing

DANBURY, CT — Police have identified the Danbury man and woman who both died after a fight, and stabbing, earlier this week.

Julia Mercedes Minchala-Montero, 38, was the victim of multiple stab wounds, on Young's Field Road in New Milford on Monday evening. She was treated at the scene, and then taken to Danbury Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

New Milford Police believe Minchala-Montero was stabbed by Luis Mauricio Loja, 32, also of Danbury.

Witnesses say Loja had fled on foot into the Housatonic River following the fight, according to police. Members of the New Milford Police Department Dive Team recovered his body from the water around 9:15 p.m., according to Lt. Earl Wheeler.

New Milford police are still investigating the incident, and are asking anyone with information to contact its detective division at 860-355-3133.
