Off Track Betting in Danbury to Get Public Hearing Tuesday

The zoning commission is holding a public hearing regarding a zoning change that would allow for the accessory use of OTB in restaurants.

DANBURY, CT — The city's zoning commission will hold a public hearing Tuesday night regarding a change to the zoning law that would allow for an off track betting (OTB) facility at a downtown restaurant.

Sportech Venues Inc. is petitioning to amend sections 2.B., 3.F.2.(e), & 3.G.13. of the city's zoning laws to allow for OTB as an accessory use in restaurants. According to multiple reports including The News Times, Sportech has agreed to spend $750,000 to renovated Two Steps Downtown Bar and Grill to allow for a sports bar on the first floor and OTB on the second.

Under the proposed agreement, Sportech would provided 1.6 percent of its gross revenue to City Center, which city officials estimate could total $100,000 per year. Sportech venues has exclusive licensing rights to OTB in Connecticut.

City Center would be provided with 1.6 percent of the gross revenue, and Sportech would renovate Two Steps into a sports bar on the first floor and OTB gaming on the second.

The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night at City Hall.
