SEP. 11 DONATION EVENT: The WCSU Social Work Club will host “Party with a Purpose,” an event to support the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Waterbury, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the Fairfield Hall lawn on the Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. SEP. 12 SAHAJA YOGA MEDITATION: The Institute for Holistic Health Studies at WCSU will host Sahaja Yoga Meditation at 7 p.m. in Room 103 of Warner Hall on the WCSU Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Sahaja Yoga Meditation is a simple, yet profound, guided meditation with easy-to-do hand movements that can be done while sitting in the comfort of a chair. Sahaja Yoga Meditation, founded by Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, is practiced in more than 100 countries. SEP. 24 FUNDRAISING WALK: The Police Benevolent Association of the WCSU Police Department will host “A Walk to Remember” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Alumni Circle on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The walk will raise funds for cancer awareness and prevention in honor of those who have lost the battle with cancer. All proceeds will be donated to Regional Hospice and Palliative Care of Danbury. SEP. 28 RESEARCH SEMINAR: Dr. Sherry Mansour, a Nephrology Fellow at Yale-New Haven Hospital, will discuss “‘Running’ the Risk of Acute Kidney Injury in Marathon Runners” at 4 p.m. in Room 125 of the Science Building on the WCSU Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Mansour’s clinical research focuses on how the kidneys recover after injury. In her presentation, she will share results from her 2017 study evaluating kidney function of runners participating in the Hartford Marathon. Her research examining the relationship between vigorous activity and kidney function has helped to develop new biomarkers of renal injury and repair. OCT. 1 ‘RUN OR DYE’ FUN RUN: WestConn Recreation will host the “Run or Dye” Fun Run at noon at Ives Concert Park on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. The course is approximately three miles long and features numerous color stations along the way. The first 100 people to pre-register will receive a free T-shirt and dye packet. OCT. 25 WELLNESS WEDNESDAY WORKSHOP: As part of the ongoing Wellness Wednesday program on campus, there will be a workshop on “Poetry and Journaling For Self and Social Action” with holistic mental health clinician, personal coach and Reiki Master/Teacher Rebecca Schoenewolf at 12:30 p.m. in Room 127 of White Hall on the WCSU Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. OCT. 26 COFFEEHOUSE: WCSU will present the Midtown Coffeehouse at 8 p.m. in the Colonial Corner in the Student Center on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The coffeehouse will feature an open mic, followed by the featured act, Brianne Chasanoff and Mary Fahl. Admission will be free and the public is invited. OCT. 27 OKTOBERFEST JAZZ: Oktoberfest Jazz will be at 8 p.m. in the Veronica Hagman Concert Hall of the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. Western’s large jazz ensembles will perform big band classics from the Thad Jones and Charlie Parker libraries. OCT. 28 CLEP TESTING: The WCSU Testing Center will host a College Level Examination Program (CLEP) test at 9 a.m. in the Computer Center of the Campus Center on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. CLEP exams provide the opportunity to receive college credit for knowledge already acquired. The exam is open to the public. OCT. 28 MISSION HEALTH DAY: WCSU, in cooperation with Danbury Hospital/Western Connecticut Health Network, will host Mission Health Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Bill Williams Gym in Berkshire Hall and the Science Building recreation field on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. OCT. 30 FUNDRAISING BREAKFAST: The WCSU Women’s Basketball Tip-Off Breakfast will be from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. in the Ballroom of the Westside Campus Center on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. The public is invited. There will be no admission charge, but participants will be encouraged to make “tip” donations. This is the annual fundraiser for the women’s basketball team.
