Darien Police Nab Chase Bank Robbery Suspect

Suspect apprehended in New York City by the FBI.

DARIEN, CT — A 24-year-old Bronx, NY man has been arrested in connection with the June 12 robbery of the Chase Bank on the Post Road in Darien, police officials announced Tuesday.

Alpha U. Jalloh, who is a suspect in other Connecticut bank robberies, was apprehended in New York City by members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, based on a warrant obtained by the Darien Police Department.

"Since the date of the [Chase Bank robbery in Darien], Darien Detectives have been working in collaboration with Detectives from Waterbury, Westport and Pawtucket, RI, as they had experienced similar bank robberies with the suspect believed to be the same person," wrote Darien police in a statement. "The FBI New Haven Office maintained contact with the group throughout the investigations and offered assistance as needed."

Darien investigators looked at Jalloh as a possible suspect for a second Chase Bank robbery, which occurred a Noroton Avenue branch on July 11, but have not charged him with that crime. The investigation into the second robbery is continuing.

"The Darien Police were the first to be granted an arrest warrant, and Jalloh was taken into custody by the FBI in New York City on the strength of said warrant," said Darien police. "Darien Detectives went to New York City, where Jalloh was interviewed in regards to the two robberies in Darien. Based on the above investigation the Darien Police applied for, and were granted, an arrest warrant for Jalloh in regards to the Bank Robbery that occurred on June 12th in Darien."

In the June 12 robbery, Jalloh allegedly did not display a weapon but passed a note to a teller demanding cash. No threats were made to employees or bank customers. He is accused of taking off with an undetermined amount of cash.

On Monday, Aug. 14, Jalloh was taken into custody by members of the Darien Patrol and Detective divisions from the New York City courts, and subsequently extradited back to Darien.

He was charged with the following:

  • CGS 53a-135: Robbery in the 2nd Degree
  • CGS 53a-124: Larceny in the 2ns Degree
  • CGS 53a-103a: Burglary in the 3rd Degree with a Firearm (or inferring possession of one)

Jalloh was held in lieu of a $200,000 and was scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court Tuesday.
