Darien Considers Single-Use Plastic Bag Ban

Several communities in Fairfield County have already made such a move.

DARIEN, CT — Following in the footsteps of Greenwich, Westport, Stamford and other area communities, Darien is considering a ban on single-use plastic bags, writes the Darien News.

On Monday, the Board of Selectmen sent a proposed resolution to the Representative Town Meeting for discussion and possible adoption in the near future.

The proposal was developed with the support of BYO Darien, a grassroots advocacy group dedicated to ending the proliferation of plastic in the community.

It would like to see a fee imposed on the use of paper bags, like in Stamford which is an incentive for people to use reusable bags. But whether that will be adopted has not been decided.
