Decision Reached On Plastic Bag Ban In Greenwich: Report

The proposed ban had been championed by the grassroots group BYOGreenwich and others.

GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich will ban single-use plastic bags by the fall following an overwhelming vote Monday night by Representative Town Meeting, reports the Greenwich Free Press.

The ban, which had been championed by BYOGreenwich and supported by students, political leaders and others, does not include a fee for shoppers who don't bring their own bag.

Westport, which was the first community in Connecticut to ban single-use plastic bags, also does not charge such a fee, though some at Monday's meeting wanted a fee of at least $0.05 or up to $0.23.
