Fee-Based Plastic Bag Ban Adopted In Stamford
The measure was passed this week by the city's Board of Representatives.

STAMFORD, CT — Beginning in April of next year, single-use plastic bags will be banned in Stamford, and the paper bags that will replace them will cost you a dime, following a new law adopted by the city's Board of Representatives this week, writes the Stamford Advocate.
The imposed fee is designed to encourage the use of reusable bags for shopping. Mayor David Martin is expected to sign the bill sometime in the next couple of weeks, and businesses will then have six months to prepare.
Exempt from the ban will be small plastic bags that contain vegetables, fruit, nuts and hardware items; also exempt from the ban will be bags for meat, fish, newspapers, dry cleaning, flowers, certain bakery and prepared foods and potted plants.
