Darien Police Make ID-Theft Related Arrest: PD

The man had several gift cards that were recoded with credit card information, police said.

DARIEN, CT — A Queens, New York man was arrested for identity theft that occurred in 2015, according to police.

Shamar Adams, 27, and two others were investigated after an officer noticed a vehicle in a closed gas station lot, according to the Darienite. The vehicle was searched and 53 unopened cigarette packages and 15 "Vanilla" brand prepaid gift cards.

Sometimes the cards are recoded with stolen credit card numbers, police said.

At the time police didn't have enough information to arrest Adams, but eventually gathered enough evidence to charge him with nine counts of unlawful reproduction of a credit card.
