Darien Votes to Demolish Former Senior Center Building

The town will pay for the demolition costs.

The Darien Board of Selectmen voted this week to approve a $440,00 fund transfer for the demolition of the former senior center facility at 30 Edgerton Street, reports the Darien Times.

The facility closed last June as senior center activities moved to the Mather Center on Renshaw Road.

Concerning what will happen to the property once it’s demolished, and no date for the demolition has been selected, remains up in the air, the website reports.

There is a belief the Board of Education wants the land for some future purpose, but nothing tangible has been decided, while some Darien officials would like the site to host an affordable senior housing complex.

A majority of the residents support the demolition of the facility, the Times reports.
