A Journey: A Musical One-Woman Show At Darien Historical Society
The musical, starring Kimberly Wilson, will be performed at the Darien Historical Society on February 11.
From the Darien Historical Society: Through words, movement and song, seven African American women are brought to life in a highly acclaimed musical, “A JOURNEY: A Musical One-Woman Show” performed by an award-winning actress who transforms into each character.
The musical, starring Kimberly Wilson, will be performed at the Darien Historical Society on Sunday, February 11 at 3 p.m. The cost is $10 for members and students and $30 for non-members.
This show tells the stories of an African Queen, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Rosa Parks, Maya Angelou, and more. Through soulful singing, character transformations, joyous celebrations and painful reflections, Wilson takes the audience on a powerful journey of courage, persistence, hope, faith, and love.

“These are historical figures I'm portraying, but anybody who comes to see the show can find something in their own history," she said. "Everyone has a unique journey."
Wilson, a resident of Westport, started to develop the musical over 20 years ago, when she presented one of her first characters, Sojourner Truth, during Black History Month. Since then, the show has evolved, incorporating more spirituals, characters and authentic dialogue to the performance.

Recently awarded Best Playwright for “A JOURNEY” by the Atlanta Black Theater Festival, Wilson started her singing and acting career at the Minneapolis Children’s Theatre, and at 17, she was a founding acting company member of the Mixed Blood Theater in Minneapolis.
After attending Howard University in Washington, D.C., Wilson was crowned Miss Black Minnesota 1984 and continued to perform in national television commercials, main stage and touring productions, such as: Ain’t Misbehavin, For Colored Girls…, The Great White Hope, Glory Road, A-My Name is Alice, Little Shop of Horrors, Ragtime: The Musical, and “A JOURNEY.”
