CONNECTICUT — We can definitely use the rain.
The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the entire state, as rain showers and thunderstorms are possible on Monday, especially during the afternoon and evening hours.
The main concerns are strong wind gusts, downpours and a low risk of an isolated tornado, according to the weather service.
In a statement covering all of southern Connecticut, the weather service said, "There is the potential for multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms today into this evening as a frontal system impacts the area. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the area under a marginal risk for isolated severe thunderstorms, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. The main threats would be damaging wind gusts and an isolated tornado. Some of the storms will also produce heavy downpours, which could lead to localized flooding of urban, low lying and poor drainage areas."
And in a statement covering northern Connecticut, the weather service said, "Numerous showers and scattered thunderstorms expected today into tonight, especially across the interior. Strong to severe storms are possible, with the main risk of damaging wind gusts and locally heavy downpours. A brief isolated tornado cannot completely be ruled out. The risk of strong to severe storms is highest from noon to 10 PM."
WTNH News 8 chief meteorologist Gil Simmons wrote on social media that there are "two rounds of what could be some rough weather today."
"Round number one this morning and round number two later this afternoon going into the evening. Keep your phone charged and close by in case there is a warning," Simmons advised. (Read more weather details at News 8 here).
Once the stormy weather departs, then the big story is excessively high temperatures and humidity, which will be around for the remainder of the week. It could feel as hot as 100 degrees in parts of the state, especially on Wednesday and Thursday, according to the weather service.
