Special Election March 2 In Darien To Fill State Senate Seat

Carlo Leone, a Democrat, represented the 27th District, which covered Stamford and Darien. He resigned the seat to take a state position.

DARIEN, CT — A Special Election will be held in Darien and Stamford on March 2 for the purpose of filling the state Senate seat of Carlo Leone, a Democrat who resigned last month to take a position in the administration of Gov. Ned Lamont. Leone represented the 27th District, which encompasses portions of the two communities.

Polls for the residents of the 27th District will open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. on March 2, but there will not be Election Day Registration for this Special Election, according to Darien's Registrar of Voters.

Pat Billie Miller, of Stamford, is the Democratic candidate for the seat; Joshua Esses, also of Stamford, is the Republican candidate; and Brian David Merlen, of Stamford, is the Independent candidate.

Leone, who was re-elected in the fall, resigned the post to become a special adviser to state Transportation Commissioner Joseph Giulietti, writes the Connecticut Post.

Automatic absentee ballots will not be mailed to voters in the district, but they can still vote by absentee if they so choose.
