Tree Conservancy of Darien Encourages Participation in Photo Contest
'Celebration of Trees' photo contest entries should be submitted between February 26 and 28 at Darien Nature Center.

Tree Conservancy of Darien is encouraging residents or those who work in Darien to submit photos of Darien trees to its 3rd annual photo contest, ‘Celebration of Trees’, between Feb. 26 and 28 at the Darien Nature Center at 120 Brookside Road during their normal hours of operation (M-F 9-4, Sat. 9-1). The juried show will include ribbons for adults, elementary, middle and high school participants in many categories. Rules of entry and entry form are available at treeconservancyofdarien.org.
TCD is a local non-profit established to preserve and enhance the wooded resources of Darien. As part of its objective of raising awareness of the value of trees in the community, Tree Conservancy of Darien hopes to inspire contestants to capture the beauty of the majestic, historic, attractive and unusual trees in Darien. “Celebration of Trees”, will hold its opening reception on March 6 at the Darien Nature Center from 6-8pm.
Residents or those who work in Darien are encouraged to take photos now, or to use recent photos of trees in Darien for submission to the contest. Photos should be taken within the past two years, can be in black and white or color, and must be 8X10 in size. Registration fee is $15 for adults and $10 for students, with a limit of three entries per person and one per category. An entry form must accompany each photograph.

Photos will be matted and displayed at the Darien Nature Center from March 7th to April 10th and will be judged by Nancy McTague Stock and Bill Taufic. Prizes will be awarded in several categories. Last year’s photo contest drew close to 100 entries from participants of all ages, with winners in 10 categories. The juried show will include ribbons for color and black and white photography, landscapes, winter scenes, fall foliage, silhouettes, spring flowering trees, flora and fauna, and images of bark. New this year is a category for digitally enhanced images.
Established in 2010, TCD has planted over 85 trees in Darien, including traffic islands near exits 11 and 13 of I-95, along Ledge Road, the entrance to Weed Beach and the Darien train station. Since its inception, Tree Conservancy of Darien has also donated over 80 trees for planting at various locations in Darien, including all seven public schools.
