Volunteers Sought For Darien's Emergency Preparedness Team
Volunteers will provide assistance with all aspects of shelter operations should an emergency occur, according to the town.

DARIEN, CT — The Darien Emergency Management Department is seeking up to 25 residents to volunteer to join the town's emergency preparedness team.
"If an emergency shelter is required in Darien, the volunteers will provide assistance with all aspects of shelter operations. Volunteers must be Darien residents living locally and readily available to be in a shelter should an emergency or disaster occur," the town said in the most recent community newsletter.

Volunteers will be required to attend a two-hour long sheltering operations orientation training on a date to be decided.
After the initial training, the volunteer team will meet quarterly for continued education, the town noted.

Shelter operation responsibilities can include checking on those in need of shelter, tracking attendance, heping with food service, receiving and monitoring supplies, assisting with security, and helping with additional needs.
"This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a volunteer team that will provide necessary assistance in local disaster situations that may affect our community," said Darien Emergency Management Director Marc McEwan in the town's newsletter. "This team will greatly bolster our capabilities to provide for a local shelter operation in widespread disaster situations."
