Warm Up with Winter Volunteering!
Beat the winter blues by volunteering right here in Connecticut!

Winters in Fairfield County can get pretty dreary at times. Icy sidewalks, snowy car roofs, gray snow piles are common sights these days. Fortunately, like most seasons, winter lends itself to its own brand of volunteer opportunities. We’ve taken the liberty of highlighting some particularly winter-centric opportunities to provide examples:
Disaster Assessment - We may have narrowly missed an historic winter storm in January, but snowstorms of any kind are still a serious hazard. An opportunity like disaster assessment, in this case through the Red Cross Connecticut Chapter, enables you to monitor the weather and impact of a storm your computer at home or work in the field to complete an impact assessment.
Food Bank Shopper - There’s always need for food-related volunteers, but it becomes even more pronounced during the harsh winter weather. Food banks always in need of volunteers for a litany of responsibilities and roles: Driving, shopping, and stocking. Person-to-Person and the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County need you during this chilly season!
Senior Services - It’s difficult getting around in the snow between navigating slushy roads, traversing frozen sidewalks and doing extensive shoveling. It gets even harder when you’re homebound and have nowhere to go. Thankfully, At Home in Darien provides companionship and support for Darien seniors who want more socialization. There are other related opportunities by offering to do grocery shopping on behalf of seniors as well that are unable to do this themselves.
Clothing Collections - Everyone needs a warm coat when it’s this cold. Liberation Programs needs your help to do an end-of-winter hat, scarf and gloves drive for 400 adults and 30 children. Opportunities like this are in prime time right now during winter and even in early spring.
