Durham Precision Optical Company Moving to Meriden

MERIDEN, CT - Aperature Optical Sciences Inc., which manufactures precision optics for lasers, outgrew its location in Durham and is moving into a building it bought late last year on Long Pond Drive in Meriden.

Using the material silicon carbide, which is almost as hard as diamond, the company will build the optics in the former electrical company building.

The company, founded by Flemming Tinker, is moving after six years in Durham with the help of a $350,000 manufacturing grant from Meriden for which it has applied, reports the Meriden Record-Journal. It has seen its revenues grow significantly as more commercial enterprises look to space travel.
