Pair of Closed Middlefield Restaurants Set to Reopen

The Fire at the Ridge and Ridgeside Tavern restaurants - at Powder Ridge - have been closed over a sprinkler code issue for nearly a week.

The Fire at the Ridge and Ridgeside Tavern restaurants, located at Powder Ridge Park ski area, are scheduled to reopen this afternoon, Jan. 27, after being closed for nearly a week over a sprinkler code issue.

The Middletown Press reports that the two restaurants had been open for a week and then closed by the town’s Building Department because their sprinkler systems were deemed not in compliance. The situation, though not fully rectified, has been satisfactorily resolved to allow the eateries to reopen today at 5 p.m.

Prior to opening the first time, the restaurants had received approval for occupancy from state building inspectors, according to Powder Ridge co-owner Sean Hayes.

“I don’t understand how someone can shut down a restaurant and tavern after a state building inspector advised them that it was fine to open,” Hayes told the Press.
