Popular Durham Cafe Closing
A popular cafe will close its doors when its lease runs out.

DURHAM, CT — Perk on main will be closing its doors at the end of the year due to a water restriction in its lease agreement, according to the establishment.
The company won't renew its lease due to a 260 gallon per day restriction, the company said in a blog post. It had reduced usage from 850 gallons per day to about 375 gallons recently. The landlord informed them that the lease wouldn't be extended beyond the end of 2017.
"We are exploring all options and I will be as open and transparent as always," owner Katie Hughes said in the post. "Owning the three Perk’s has been extremely rewarding but also extremely difficult. This type of set back has really shaken me. Moving a restaurant is no cheap undertaking and to do so the location would have to be 'awesome.”
