That's Right: There's an Assistant Superintendent of Pumpkins at the Durham Fair

How can I get in on this gig?

Well, it appears that if I want to be an assistant superintendent of pumpkins for the Durham Fair, I have to grow one.

No, not a small one! And no, I can’t buy one and pass it off as mine! (I already thought of that.) I have to grow a seriously big pumpkin — in my mind, I’d accept nothing less than 1,766.5 lbs.

That is the weight of the pumpkin Matt DeBacco once grew — he is the current assistant superintendent of pumpkins and current state record holder. He says the pumpkins are still growing at this time of year, at a cool half-a-pound or pound an hour!
