Middletown House Concert Series

Andrew VanNorstrand is a musician, singer, and songwriter based in Springfield, Vermont. He has performed on festival stages, concert halls, dance floors, and living rooms all over North America and beyond. With his brother Noah VanNorstrand, Andrew has and recorded with the popular dance band Great Bear and is now often on the road with progressive folk/roots quartet The Faux Paws. From the Rust Belt to the Blue Ridge, cold spring in New England to a summer’s night in Charlottesville, his original songs seek out beauty in the search and struggle for understanding. Andrew blends traditional folk, old-time, country, and Western swing with a deep appreciation of indie-roots-Americana and artists like Jeff Tweedy, Richard Thompson, Gillian Welch, Sufjan Stevens, and Townes Van Zandt. Rachel Bell is sought after for concerts, contra dances, French BalFolk dances, English country dances, workshops, and festivals. Her playing spans an enormous range of emotion, from nuanced and sensitive to exhilarating and powerful, pushing the boundaries of what is expected from an accordion. Rachel’s work is infused with a contagious enthusiasm for her instrument and a deep respect for the musical traditions she carries. She loves to create authentic connections with audiences everywhere—from packed, energized dance halls to small, intimate house concert settings. What does UNITY mean to you?
On Saturday, October 3, 2026, Angelface Records — founded by Clinton residents Joe and Angelica McCarthy — invites the Connecticut community to gather for the first live experience of ONE: For Harmony, For Humanity — a multidisciplinary contemporary jazz album, live performance, and community project by the Latin Grammy®-winning, Grammy®-nominated <a target="_blank" href="https://joemccarthymusic.com" rel="nofollow noopener">New York Afro Bop Alliance Big Band</a>. This is an invitation to belong to something — not just to witness it.
The evening begins at 5:00 PM with The ONE Gathering — a community commons featuring UNITY stations, Arts for All Ages, and a shared Community Mural, where families create together and answer the question "What does UNITY mean to you?" Every person who walks in is invited to contribute their voice, their creativity, and their art to the project itself.
At 7:00 PM, The ONE Concert opens with community performances by&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://morgan.clintonpublic.net/music" rel="nofollow noopener">The Morgan School Jazz Band</a>, the <a target="_blank" href="https://shorelinetheateracademy.org/" rel="nofollow noopener">Shoreline Theater Academy Kidz Konnection</a>, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/PoetLaureateClintonCT/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Poet Laureate of Clinton Bethany Howard</a>, and Guitarist/Singer/Songwriter Michael J. Fox, among other special guests. The New York Afro Bop Alliance Big Band closes the evening with a live preview of ONE: For Harmony, For Humanity — a musical journey toward unity through five original compositions woven together with spoken word and community voices. What is experienced in the room does not end there. The questions, practices, and relationships travel home with you, extending the purpose of ONE beyond the stage. The album records in November 2026 and releases in early 2027.
