East Hampton CERT Team Recruiting New Members

Rich Klotzbier, East Hampton’s Emergency Management Director, is looking for additional volunteers to join the East Hampton Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT).

Last summer's initial graduating class saw work almost immediately helping out following Superstorm Sandy. More members are needed.

CERT volunteers are trained to provide local, immediate support to emergency responders during a disaster. They perform duties such as shelter support, crowd control, and assistance in evacuations. They also help year-round with preparedness outreach, drills, and fire safety education.  The East Hampton team meets one evening a month.

Two new classes are scheduled to begin soon. They will be held in conjunction with the East Haddam CERT team. All classes will be held at the East Haddam Fire House on Town Street.
