Attorney: ‘Nothing to’ Alleged Bar Fight Involving East Hampton's Sgt. Green
Sgt. Michael Green was put on paid leave late last month following a report alleging that he choked a person during an off-duty incident in April.

For the third time in two years, Sgt. Michael Green has been placed on leave, this time following an alleged off-duty altercation at an East Hampton bar.
Green was placed on leave May 6. This is the second time this year he has been placed on leave.
According to The Middletown Press, East Hampton Town Manager Michael Maniscalco placed Green on paid leave late last month after Maniscalco learned Green was involved in the alleged “choking” of an individual at a bar in town on April 12.
That’s according to a letter Maniscalco sent to Green, which the Press obtained through a Freedom of Information request and published on its website.
According to the letter, Maniscalco told Green he is barred from appearing on town property and from having any contact with town staff until the investigation is complete. Maniscalco declined to comment to The Press regarding the investigation, although he confirmed it is ongoing.
Green’s lawyer, however, told Patch in a phone interview there is no basis for the complaint or the investigation and that Green was acting in accordance with his role as a police officer.
“The situation was resolved quickly, easily and fully, and there’s nothing to it,” said Attorney Elliott B. Spector.
Spector told Patch there was some sort of altercation with a person at a bar who was “acting up.” Green had tried to intervene to get this person to calm down but the person went in Green’s direction, at which point the altercation occurred, Spector said.
Afterward, however, one of the person’s friends came in and removed him, and the incident ended, Spector said.
“The guy involved (in the altercation) didn’t make a complaint,” Spector said.
Green was disciplined in 2011 and again just last month when officials put him on a 15-day suspension for failing to report to work on Dec. 21.
Green is a 25-year veteran of the department who earns an annual salary of $75,000.
