By the Numbers: Portland vs. Coginchaug

Portland has won 14 in a row. Coginchaug has won 10 straight. Something has to give.

The two teams will meet for the girls' Shoreline Conference title Friday night at 7 p.m. at Coginchaug High School in Durham.

The Highlanders and Blue Devils met only once this season, with Portland winning 44-42 at home. It was the fifth consecutive victory over Coginchaug for Portland, which beat the Blue Devils four times last season including in the Class S semifinals. Portland lost in the Class S final 39-37 to St. Paul (Bristol).

In the Jan. 20 game this season, Kelly Coleman led Portland with 28 points. The Highlanders, however, were only 5 of 12 from the free-throw line. Lauren Esposito scored 15 for Coginchaug. The Blue Devils' Audrey Biesak, who earned first-team All-Shoreline honors, was held to eight points on 3 of 16 shooting.
