Coventry Farmers' Market has Much to Offer

One of more than 100 Farmers' Markets statewide.

Looking for something different to do this Sunday, why not try the Coventry Farmers' Market.

Connecticut has over 100 farmers’ markets statewide. Farmers’ markets can be found seven-days a week and just a short distance from virtually any town. The popularity of the markets mirrors the benefits - fresh, local products, friendly farmers that are the face behind the food you’re buying, and a community gathering place for everyone to enjoy. Connecticut residents should expect nothing but top quality fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry, dairy products, honey, maple syrup and much more.

The Coventry Regional Farmers’ Market is held June through October on the grounds of the Nathan Hale Homestead at 2299 South St. in Coventry.

The market draws 75,000 visitors annually and generates sales exceeding $350,0000. The market is run by a volunteer committee that operates under a registered 501c3 organization. It is considered a “destination market” drawing nearly 50 percent of its patrons from beyond the local area. It is a “dog friendly” market: leashed, well-mannered dogs are welcome.

Market-goers often describe the market as “a little country fair every Sunday.” To be sure, each market is a celebration of locally-grown and handmade goods. Each Sunday has a theme as well.

Later in the season, events like the Seaside Social with Max’s Oyster Bar; Wine & Art Gala, Old Fashioned Corn Roast, Chili Pepper & Salsa Shindig, Fiber Twist and Three Sisters Celebration celebrate the growing season and what’s special about Connecticut.
