East Hampton Considers Hiring New Police Officer to Replace Seriously Injured Off. Hardie Burgin

Burgin was struck by a car while on a traffic detail in September.

EAST HAMPTON, CT — The town is considering hiring a new police officer to take over duties for the seriously injured Off. Hardie Burgin, who was struck by a car in September.

Residents will have the chance to vote on the measure at a town meeting scheduled for Oct. 24, reports the Middletown Press. A new officer would cost close to $55,000 according to the publication.

Burgin remains on leave and has more surgeries in his future, according to Police Chief Sean D. Cox. The new officer would not a replacement for Burgin, but when Burgin might return is unknown.
