East Hampton has Strong Showing at Invitational

Boys finish first and girls third in annual event.

They came from all over. Portland, Coginchaug, Old Saybrook, Capital Prep, Thomaston, Windham Tech, East Longmeadow, Mass., just to name some of the high schools that were in East Hampton on Saturday for the annual Bellringer Invitational.

Besides the great competition, the weather was perfect and there was some pretty good food being served up, too. In all, a great day that ended with the East Hampton boys finishingd first overall while the girls took third. The Portland boys finished 14th and the girls eighth.

For East Hampton, Nikki Chambers won the girls 800 meters; Hannah Blondin, Jenna Klemonski, Nikki Chambers and Shannon Walsh won the 4x400 relay; Jeff Pratt won the shot put; and Ryan Rubega and Nate Abraham finished first and second in the pole vault. For Portland, Amanda Ghent finished fourth in the girls' 400 meter dash and fifth in the 800 meters; Molly Donahue was fifth in the girls' 3,200 meters; Amanda Ghent, Becky Johnson, Cindy France and Blake Law finished fifth in the girl's 4x400 relay; Nikki Otake was fifth in the girls' pole vault.
