Teen, 14, Suffers Serious Head Injury, Flown To Hospital: Portland Police

The incident happened at an elementary school when it was closed and no after hours activities were scheduled, police said.

PORTLAND, CT — A 14-year-old suffered a serious head injury and was flown to a local hospital on Friday night, police said.

At 9:23 p.m. EMS, Fire and Police personnel responded to Gildersleeve Elementary School on Main Street for a juvenile with a head injury, police said. The juvenile is 14 years old. The school was closed and no after hours activities were scheduled.

"Due to the seriousness of the injury, LIFE STAR Helicopter was requested and responded to treat and transport the juvenile," police said. "LIFE STAR landed at Gildersleeve Elementary School and Transported the juvenile to Connecticut Childrens Medical Center in Hartford."

In an update, Portland CT Police Department said the juvenile that sustained a head injury and was transported to CCMC via LIFE STAR is expected to make a full recovery. The investigation revealed that there was no criminal element to the incident, police said.
