The Chatham Historical Society
will host a
walking tour of the Hog Hill Cemetery on Sunday, October 6 at 10
am as part of
its “Explore East Hampton” monthly series of walks. The East
Hampton Parks and
Recreation will sponsor the event. Come
for a walk
back in time and learn about the people who lived in
the area and
their many achievements.
The walk will be led by Kevin
J. Tulimieri
who is a historian and researcher at Nathan Liverant and Son
Antiques in
Colchester, CT. Kevin has published numerous articles on the
subject of
American antiques of the 18th century as well as his research on
Venture
Smith's unique 1805 gravestone and its carver, John Isham of
East Haddam. The Hog
Hill Cemetery was established in 1741 and the tour will include
many Middle
Haddam families. Tulimieri and members of the Chatham Historical
Society will
share many stories about the people who "reside" there.
The
Walking Tour
offers a wonderful and unique opportunity
for new residents to learn about the history of East Hampton and
for life-long
residents to share their recollections and stories with others.
Adults and
children are welcome to join in what promises to be an afternoon
of making
local history come alive.
