Michaud Lifts Bellringers to Fourth Straight Win

East Hampton defeated Coginchaug 3-0 in Durham behind the right arm and bat of Adam Michaud.

The 6-foot-2 junior scattered five hits and pitched out of a base loaded jam in the second inning and another jam in the fifth.

"I thought he and Coach Johnson [Gregg, East Hampton pitching coach] mixed pitches well and kept them a bit off balance," East Hampton coach Scott Wosleger said. " He got big outs when we needed them and we were solid defensively."  

Michaud and Marvin Gorgas added two hits apiece. Michaud's second being a long home run over the left field fence in the fourth. Gorgas also had an RBI on a single in the second inning following a one out sacrifice bunt.

"Tommy [Ryan] is a good pitcher and I felt we should manufacture even with one out already in the inning," Wosleger said. "Marvin came up with a big hit to make me look good."

A sacrifice fly by Spencer Daly also accounted for a run in the third.  With two on and no outs in the seventh, a tiring Michaud gave way to Gorgas who shut the door with a fly out, strikeout, and a comebacker to finish it and give the Bellringers their fifth win in six tries. Coginchaug dropped to 1-5.

Wosleger was relieved.

"We have had some nightmares at this field," he said. "It feels good to finish one. We beat a very good pitcher and a well-coached team. We earned it today."

The Bellringers, winners of four in a row, will play at Old Saybrook on Friday. The Rams (6-1) lost their first game of the season on Wednesday to Westbrook, 7-5.
