Portland Students Make the Grade on 2011 CMT
Local students outperformed the statewide averages on the test.

Portland students outscored the statewide averages on this year’s Connecticut Mastery Test in all disciplines tested and in at all grade levels.
The standardized test is given each year to students in grades 3-8 and tests their knowledge in math, reading and writing. In grades 5 and 8 it also tests the students’ knowledge of science.
Student performance on the CMT statewide was generally better overall this year than in 2010, state education officials said, continuing a trend of incremental improvement over previous years. The CMT assesses approximately 250,000 students on their application of skills and knowledge in the academic content areas. This year marks the sixth administration of the Fourth Generation CMT, which was first administered in March of 2006. That test year serves as a baseline year for examining changes in student performance over the course of the Fourth Generation.
