At-risk Swimming Allowed at Lake Pocotopaug in East Hampton
The caveat: It's up to the swimmer to decide if it's worth taking the risk.

Blue-green algae blooms in East Hampton’s Lake Pocotopaug have subsided to the point where officials have reopened it for swimmers, though it’s at their own risk.
The Middletown Press reported that Town Manager Michael Maniscalco announced that recent tests have yielded a result of 60,000 parts per milliliter, which is below guidelines for keeping the lake closed.
The newspaper said that town officials had closed Sears Park beach in mid-August because of the algae bloom. The algae contains toxins that can irritate one’s skin and harm the liver.
