State Cross Country Tournaments Interrupted by Weather

The CIAC had hoped to get the state cross country tournaments in on Saturday by moving up the start times. It almost worked.

With snow arriving earlier than expected, the championships at Wickham Park in East Hartford had to be stopped. The Girls' Class S, Boys' Class SS and Girls' Class SS were postponed till Monday, pending course availability due to conditions.

However, most of the championships were held, and in Class S, Hale-Ray finished 8th and Portland, with the team of Nicholas Blanchard, Adam Harris, Anton Clark, Jason Staub, Tim Salecky, John Dolan and Shayde Nofziger, finished 9th. Hale-Ray's Alex Weselcouch finished 8th in the individual standings with a time of 18:06.

East Hampton, competing in Class SS, will run on Monday. The Bellringers who will be running are: Madison Boyce, McKenzie Boyce, Hannah Cook, Natalie Ihnat, Amber Sekoll, Lindsay Stoldt and Shannon Walsh for the girls. For the boys, Matt Benedict, David Einsiedel, Jake Jendrzejczyk, William Lonsdale, Garrett Roberts, Blake Szkoda and Seth Tibus.

The Portland girls also will be competing on Monday. The Highlanders who will be running in Class S are: Maria D'Angelo, Molly Donahue, Cindy France, Lisa Rand, Mikaela Smith, Paige Wache and Shelly Ziegler Portland.
