The Big Dog is Back in Town

Four long time childhood friends and East Haven natives have come together in the most f-axe-inating way to remember a late friend, Glenn DeGray Jr. Big Dog’s Mobile Axe Throwing is the first mobile axe throwing trailer to come to New Haven County, serving Connecticut. It is a local veteran owned and operated business.

Owners Marc Ciarleglio, Eric Carlson, Joe Doheny, and Matt Modena say that they knew they wanted to keep their late friend Glenn’s memory alive somehow, but at first, they weren’t sure how. “Then we went axe throwing and it clicked and we thought, ‘this is it. This is what we need to do’…and we decided to do a mobile one because thats what Glenn did. He brought the fun to us. He was the fun. So now we bring the fun to others.” And the name? “That’s just what Glenn used to call himself,” Doheny explains. “The Big Dog.”

Big Dog’s Mobile Axe Throwing trailer is equipped with two axe throwing lanes and state of the art technology including projected targets, multiple mini games, and an anti bounce target surround. The friends say they are hoping to extend their reach to picnics and parties, as well as stags, Jack and Jill’s, weddings, fairs, team building, and more. They have already secured a spot at local fairs and breweries including the The New England Taco Festival on July 31 and August 1, Stony Creek Brewery every Saturday, and Bad Sons Beer Co every Sunday with more unannounced events on standby.

The owners collectively state that their longtime friendship means “everything” to them. “We’re more than friends, this is a family..Glenn was always the glue to that..Glenn is the guy at the party who you look at and instantly smile, the guy who you run into randomly and makes you feel like the most important person in the world. Glenn embodied something more than him. Big Dog was a symbol of how we all wanted to live; in the moment, happy, and grateful.”
