Democrat Michael Speer announced the formation of his exploratory committee for a potential mayor bid for East Haven via YouTube in November 2014.
Since then, there has been excitement around his potential mayoral bid with many in support of the next generation of leadership stepping up to carry the torch for East Haven. The YouTube video currently has over 1,100 views and since it’s release date, his social media account has grown by almost 2,000 new supporters.
“As a life-long resident of East Haven and being a volunteer at the East Haven Senior Center for over twenty years, my ability to empathize with people in every age range has been instrumental to this movement coming together. The people are excited that there is finally someone who is willing to stand up and vocalize for them,” Speer said in a press release.

“Due to East Haven’s current image, the public both inside our town and members from the surrounding communities are rejecting our brand. My goal is to create brand equity for our town that has so much potential, but not yet been utilized correctly. Until we usher in the next generation of leadership that has the enthusiasm and excitement to believe that they can truly make a difference, being mayor will continue to be nothing more than a retirement job.”
The “Speer 2015” team continues to grow each day and they welcome all to join in on this mission. Speer believes that if residents want to take part they must keep their main focus on the good of East Haven.
