East Haven Officials Concerned State Budget Woes May Impact Local Budget
Town officials are concerned that state aid to East Haven may be reduced because of ongoing state budget deficits.

On March 3, East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr. will present his proposed budget for fiscal 2016-17 to members of the Board of Finance.
Many observers assume the town side portion of the budget will be relatively flat, but as to whether taxes may increase next year, that will likely be decided at the state level.
Town officials tell the New Haven Register that because of the state’s ongoing budgetary woes and now projected $570 million deficit, they’re weary of local financial aid from the state being cut, which could impact the budget and mill rate next year.

The Finance Board must approve a budget by March 23 and then it goes to the Town Council in April. Five budget workshops have been scheduled between March 8-March 17, the Register reports.
Also impacting the budget greatly is the Board of Education’s proposed budget, which seeks a $1.6 million increase over the current fiscal year.
