UPDATE: Schools Have 41 Positive Cases, 96 In Quarantine
As students and staff return to school Monday, it's predicted case numbers will rise after the long holiday weekend.
EAST HAVEN, CT — As students and teachers return to school Monday after the Thanksgiving holiday, two classes have been put in quarantine, a number of new cases were reported since Wednesday and, some are wondering how their kids will tote all their school gear back and forth as the district sent kids home with packed bags Wednesday.
According to letters sent to families by schools superintendent Erica Forti, the district COVID-19 case and at least three parents, a paraprofessional who was in school one day, was out the next after testing positive, which led to the quarantine of two full classes. Beginning Wednesday, the districts announced an East Haven High School case, then the East Haven Academy case of a staff member, and by Sunday, another high school case was reported.
According to the tracker, as of Sunday morning, there were 41 total cases with 76 in quarantine. By Monday afternoon, 96 were in quarantine: 25 at East Haven Academy, 6 from Joseph Melillo Middle, 20 at Tuttle School, 16 at the Overbrook Early Learning Center and 27 from East Haven High School.

Meanwhile, some parents were questioning why the district sent students home with all their in-class supplies including Chromebooks and then were expected to bring the supplies back and forth, and were perhaps repairing for a school closure. In a message to families the district wrote that the measure “does not indicate that we are planning for a school or district closure, but are ensuring students are prepared and have what they need in the event they want to change from an in person learner to a remote learner, or may be required to quarantine.”
