Forensic Audit Of East Haven School Business Office Ordered

EAST HAVEN, CT – The East Haven Board of Education, at its first meeting since the November election, voted to conduct a forensic audit of its business office. The board has been talking about an audit of its books for quite some time but until now hadn’t voted to do so.
Minutes of the meeting weren’t specific as to what the audit would entail, stating that the cost of it would be the determine factor.

An audit of how the school bills was first talked about earlier this year when Town Council members demanded answers after an audit report revealed that the Board of Education ran close to a $1 million deficit in fiscal year 2015-16.
During the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2016, the school board spent $918,675 more than the allotted budget of $47.2 million.

Also at the first board meeting since the election, long-time school board chairman John Finkle was defeated in his attempt to be re-elected chairman.
Finkle lost by a 5-4 to Michelle DeLucia, who is the new chairwoman of the Board of Education.
