MINDMAP Extends Successful Early Psychosis Treatment Program To Branford And Milford
MINDMAP seeks to inform young people and their friends and family of the local, effective, free care available to them.
In January, the clinic for Specialized Treatment Early in Psychosis (STEP) launched MINDMAP: a campaign targeting the eight Connecticut towns of Bethany, Hamden, East Haven, New Haven, North Haven, Orange, West Haven and Woodbridge. Now, after much demand, MINDMAP is expanding its offer of local, free and effective treatment to the towns of Branford and Milford.
Yale University School of Medicine, the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and the National Institute of Mental Health support MINDMAP’s efforts to enable young people and their families, in the New Haven area, to rapidly access care at STEP.
Psychosis is often an early warning of mental illnesses that can cause people to perceive or interpret things differently from those around them, including hallucinations and delusions. Symptoms commonly appear in people aged sixteen to twenty-five, and eighty-five percent of people suffering from psychosis develop it before they turn thirty-five. These illnesses can disrupt lives and early treatment is critical to get young people back on track.

“We are pleased to be able to expand access to Branford and Milford. MINDMAP will now seek to transform pathways to care for recent onset psychosis in 10 towns. We hope to model a population-based approach to early intervention in Southern Connecticut”
