Steel Magnolias Launches Cabaret on Main’s New Signature Series With a Focus on Community and Mental Health

East Haven, CT — This March, Cabaret on Main Theater launches an exciting new chapter in its programming with the debut of its Signature Series, presented by its resident community theatre, Broadway on Main Theatre Company. The series opens with the beloved American classic Steel Magnolias, running March 6 through March 22.

The Signature Series was created to spotlight meaningful, story-driven theatrical works that foster emotional connection, encourage conversation, and reflect real human experiences. Broadway on Main Theatre Company places a strong emphasis on productions that promote mental health awareness, empathy, and the importance of community support through the arts.

Set in a small Southern beauty salon, Steel Magnolias balances sharp humor with deeply moving moments as six women navigate life’s milestones together. While widely known for its wit and warmth, the play also explores themes of emotional strength, vulnerability, and coping through connection — making it a powerful fit for Broadway on Main’s focus on mental health awareness.

For Lisa Sand Costello, who appears in her fourth Broadway on Main Theatre Company production, the story carries personal and emotional significance.
