Town History, Landmarks Subject Of Mayor's Student Art Contest
Mayor Joe Carfora hopes to get kids excited about town history by participating in an art contest.
EAST HAVEN, CT — The town's history and landmarks will be the subjects of art work created by East Haven school children as part of Mayor Joe Carfora's art contest.
Carfora staff contacted East Haven Public School's Superintendent Erica Forti, excited to pitch the idea for an art contest with the hopes of this being the first of "coming together" projects between the town and East Haven students. And, to encourage kids to learn about their town's history.
Described as a collaboration, the art contest brought together schools Family and Community Engagement Facilitator Julie Oca Church, the schools Assistant Director of Administration and Management Michelle Benivegna and Carfora’s office, the Art Display Contest came together.

"What better way to display the many talents of East Haven’s youth than in Town Hall on the wall of the Mayor’s Office for all to view," Hedley said.
The contest is for all fifth graders, middle and high school students. Multiple projects will be selected to be displayed in the Mayor’s office with other artwork to be featured in other town buildings, BOE’s Central Office and local businesses and throughout town.
