Motorcycle Gang Member Convicted In Somers Homicide Case

The victim, a Massachusetts man, was found bound and fatally shot in a vehicle discovered in a field in Somers.

SOMERS, CT — A jury has convicted a New Britain man in the 2021 kidnapping and killing of a Massachusetts man whose body was later found in a field off Durkee Road in Somers.

Timothy Lange, 36, was found guilty March 5 in Rockville Superior Court of second-degree kidnapping, felony murder and tampering with evidence, according to Tolland State’s Attorney Craig P. Nowak. Authorities have previously identified Lange as a known member of the Outlaws motorcycle gang.

Prosecutors said the case began early Aug. 4, 2021, when Lange and the victim, Jason Comes, 38, of Wilbraham, Massachusetts, were at Mardi Gras 2, an adult entertainment bar on North Road in East Windsor just off Interstate 91.

Surveillance footage later showed Comes’ car leaving the bar behind Lange’s motorcycle. Investigators said the vehicles traveled through Enfield before stopping briefly at a gas station and continuing to a property on Moody Road.

About 90 minutes later, vehicles connected to the group were seen traveling east toward Somers, where cameras captured them heading toward Durkee Road.

Later that morning, Aug. 5, a property owner contacted police after finding a car parked in a field on Durkee Road. Officers discovered Comes unresponsive in the back seat with a gunshot wound to the torso. His feet were bound with tape and a belt was wrapped around one wrist.

Investigators later linked Lange to the crime through DNA evidence recovered from the victim’s clothing and cellphone data that tracked the movements of those involved.

Authorities also tied Lange to a vehicle fire hours earlier the same morning in Woodbridge, where firefighters responded to a burning pickup truck later identified as belonging to the defendant.

Judge Tejas Bhatt increased Lange’s bond to $3.5 million following the guilty verdict. Sentencing is scheduled for May 29 in Rockville.

A second suspect, Zachary Joseph Apt, 34, of Southington, was arrested earlier this year and faces several charges in connection with the killing. Court records show Apt’s case is currently awaiting a plea, with his next court date scheduled for April 24, 2026, at 10 a.m. in Rockville Superior Court.
