The weather cooperated as the rain held off on Saturday May 10th for the kick off of the Ellington Farmers' Market summer season. It was wonderful to see the community come out in full strength to visit the barnyard babies, catch up with friends and neighbors and support the market. Sheryl Stanton provided the music while kids danced freely around the gazebo in celebration of spring as the sun peeked out of the clouds.
The piglet from Copper Hill Farm, who is awaiting a name, was a big hit as young and old enjoyed watching the little guy rooting and snorting all morning. I never knew that pigs were such rototillers! Over 150 names where entered and the six finalist are now posted on the market facebook page for voting. The person whose has entered the winning name not only gets the honor of naming the spotted swine, but also will receive a $25 gift certificate to the market. (I'm not sure which one is better!) The six finalist names are: Oreo, Samson, Sir Spot, Hamlet, Ernesto, and Studly P. Merriweather. Be sure to go to https://www.facebook.com/ellingtonfarmersmarket and vote for your favorite name. You will need to scroll down the page to see all six choices. The voting takes place through Friday.
This weekend looks to be just as much fun as the Market host the All's Wool that Ends Wool Fiber Festival. There will be a live sheep shearing demonstration at 10:00 and hands on soap and needle felting all morning. Fiber producing animals including angora goats, angora rabbits, sheep and alpacas will be attending the market. Fido's Fiber will be on hand demonstrating the process of spinning dog fur into yarn. If you have a hairy canine you can finally find a use for all that fur floating around your house. Imagine wearing the same "coat" as your canine friend, wow! Their will be no shortage of fun things to see and do at the market this weekend.
The weather man says the rain will be gone by Friday evening so come on down to the place to be on a Saturday morning and enjoy great food, friends and entertainment. Ellington Farmers Market, Local and Fresh...Our Community at it's Best. Thank you for your awesome support, see you there!
