• Former Ellington Assistant Fire Chief Dies At 85 (patch.com) — Ellington residents are remembering Daniel Connors, a life member and former assistant chief of the Ellington Volunteer Fire Department, who has died at age 85. Connors served the department in multiple leadership roles during the 1970s and is survived by four daughters, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
   

• $100K lottery payday lands at Vernon supermarket (shorenewsnetwork.com) — An Ellington resident just claimed a $100,000 prize from a Connecticut Lottery scratch ticket bought at the Super Stop & Shop in nearby Vernon. The winner, listed as being from Ellington, scored the six-figure CA$HWORD 2nd Edition payout on Monday, adding another big local win to the state's recent lottery streak.
   

• Eagle Archives, Aug. 28, 1930: Last meeting of 49th Regiment held today with three attending (berkshireeagle.com) — A Civil War veteran from Ellington, E.L. Loveland, was one of just three aging soldiers who attended the 63rd and final reunion of the 49th Massachusetts Regiment back in 1930. The gathering marked the end of their annual meetings, with records preserved for history and remaining funds dedicated to helping other old soldiers.
